I put mine beside a soldier with the surname Palmer. We found lots of 'Palmers' as it is a popular last name.
We also explored the museum and saw lots of artifacts from WW1 and WW2 including a boat that landed at Gallipoli. You could even see the bullet holes in it. We went on a tour and the man had a very quiet voice and it was difficult to hear him. We saw the tomb of the unknown soldier and the beautiful mosaic dome roof and walls.
There was a kids area where we got to dress up in army uniforms and fly helicopters, go in submarines and go in trenches. It felt very real.
I wanted to buy something in the gift shop but I didn't have enough money because I have been buying so many patches and I will do another blog entry about my patch addiction. When you walk out you look straight down and see Parliament house and Old Parliament house.
We also went to Parliament house and saw the House of Representitives and the Senate. I found out that if you opened up all the doors from the front to the back, the prime minister could see the War Memorial from his desk! Everything in Canberra lines up perfectly.
The Australian War Memorial is a very moving place Maisie isn't it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. X Nannie
